A new truck for the mission

While the construction of the new nursery school will begin, we must consider the transport of materials. The few cars in the village would not have enough to move the sand, cement, steel, etc., necessary for construction. We must see more powerful and bigger, and anticipate future projects ...

The isolation of the Karen villages, isolated in mountains with very steep terrain and poorly served by bad dirt tracks, is one of the main obstacles to the development of mountain villages. Projects initiated in the last three years run up against the following pitfalls:

- Impossibility of access in areas not served by roads. Difficulty of the transport of materials, made impossible during the rainy season, because of the bad state of the network of tracks.

- Medium and large-scale community projects (schools, cooperatives) as well as water supply and hydropower projects are slowed down by the difficulty of supplying materials.

- The rainy season, which makes impassable the tracks serving the village, prevents entries and exits and contributes to isolate a little more the village, with the social and health consequences that it entails (medical emergencies in particular).

With this in mind, the villagers have expressed the wish to have an all-terrain truck that can move in all seasons, especially the rainy season. This truck must allow to carry out the work of community projects (school, cooperative) and individual (private houses) and to allow to start various agricultural projects (new rice fields, fish farming). Able to carry heavy loads, this truck will have to allow the supply of the village (foodstuffs, building materials, supplies) and the various future sites (building materials of the school, the hydro-electric turbine, tracks , etc.). Capable of facing impassable tracks in the rainy season by the few cars of the villagers 4X4, it will finally allow the exit of the village (field trips, medical emergencies, transport of crops).

After much research, it was a reformed military SUV truck of the brand HINO that caught our attention. Although old (about fifteen years), it has had very few hours of operation and is therefore in perfect condition. Better: the military vehicles borrows from the civil models the parts and most of the equipment. HINO is well established in Thailand in the truck market, it is the assurance of availability of parts. Although heavyweight template, it has only 4 wheels, allowing registration in light gear. Finally it has a large platform (for the transport of materials), but also retractable benches for the transport of people. Without electronics or sophisticated improvements, it is a powerful and safe machine, of great rusticity, easy maintenance, whose size is perfectly sized for the needs of a village like Poblaki.

After some work of restarting, a beautiful painting, here it is ready to serve for many years in the development of mountain villages! Only a few weeks after his start, he finds his first vocation, since he is requisitioned to transport the guard of the princess, visiting the villages!
